2 Day Workshop – Guge Institute

Project for this class is TBD
Join woodburning artist, designer, and writer Sharon Bechtold for a weekend of burning fun. The workshop will cover
basic tools and how to use them correctly, surface options and preparation, approaching the work (composition-
troubleshooting), and finishing the work (framing-colorization).

Through fun morning exercises designed to get you warmed up and cover burning techniques, to explanations on values,
line quality, and composition, these two days will jump start (or turbo charge) your woodburning. Select your own
project from a number of professional patterns provided in class. Come ready to enjoy a fun filled weekend!
P.S.
Don’t forget your burner!

The format of the workshop is individualized instruction with group demonstrations. All levels are welcome. The class begins with
a general introduction, demonstration, warm-up exercises, then individualized instruction with students working at their own pace.
Each student will receive a study board with specific samples and individualized instruction to take home. In addition, students will
create a value study – also to take home for reference. Workshop covers the artist’s unique approach to burning. An excellent course
for any level artist from beginner, through advanced. A variety of projects will be available to work on. Students should plan bring
their own burning unit and pens (a limited number of units are available for loan – deposit for pens is required) Pens needed are a
skew, shader and ball or writing pen.
